Listed buildings are those properties that have special historic or architectural value and are placed on a statutory list compiled by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, on advice from English Heritage. Listing ensures that the special interest of the building is carefully considered before any alterations, either outside or inside, are agreed by the local planning authority. Please contact Development Control staff for advice about any proposed alterations to a listed building that you may be considering. For more general information please contact Frances Fewster Conservation Officer.
Historic Building Grants are available to all historic properties, including unlisted ones, that are within Conservation Areas. For more information please contact Alison McCandlish.
